The Analytical Mineralogy group in Jena - Prof. Dr. Falko Langenhorst - at a glance!

Our research topics include

  • meteorites and impacts
  • mineralogy of the Earth's interior
  • processes on mineral surfaces and bio-geo interactions
  • material science and analytical methods

Our methods of choice are high-resolution transmission and scanning electron microscopy, the application of electron crystallography as well as analyses using electron energy loss and X-ray emission spectroscopy.

Studying the small scale in order to understand the processes and interactions on the larger scale is the central theme of our research.
